On a day to day basis I am creating and developing test routines in LabVIEW and TestStand. I am also developing the electronics in a test system which we are creating. This is soon to be moved into production to test the products we make.
I started my apprenticeship knowing very little about electronics and absolutely nothing about software. I am now competent at electronics and am continuously working on this skill to become a better test engineer. I am also very skilled in software development now which I could only have dreamed of being.
I enjoy my program to the maximum I could. It not only challenges me, but it develops me professionally and personally. I am learning many new things every day and I don't ever see that changing. I am in a very innovative department that always has ideas and new ways of working.
I feel very valued by MBDA. I am still an apprentice yet I feel like I have a great responsibility and people are counting on me to do my job. This is recognised by the company and even rewarded. I recently received the award apprentice of the year which lets me know my efforts aren't going un-noticed.
My program is very well structured, we have movement plans throughout our apprenticeship that show us the areas we will visit throughout the 4 years. We also have objectives set for every new placement we start, and reviews at the end of every placement. We have multiple mentors that guide apprentices through their programme and even after you are out of your apprenticeship.
My training provider gives the correct amount of support, when we need her she is always there. She is always in contact about up coming events and lets us know of her whereabouts monthly as she is split between 2 UK sites.
I receive a great deal of support from my employer, I am pushed to develop myself and am rewarded when I accomplish something. We are encouraged to do as much further education as we can, all provided by the company.
My salary exceeds my expectations. I has increased annually since starting my apprenticeship and I have always thought I am lucky to be on the salary I am on. I have recently bought a house, I have a car, great social life and I am only 20 all thanks to my great salary.
So many opportunities arise throughout my apprenticeship, just a few examples of the event I have been to : - The house of Lord and the House of commons - Several different schools throughout the north west to talk about apprenticeships - Life skills course in wales - Life skills 2 course in wales - Networking events in London - IET events - MBDA's recognition awards in Stevenage
Yes
It is a fantastic company that looks after it's employees. There are so many people in this company who have been here for 30, 40, 50 years. This proves how good this company is as people know they can't get better elsewhere.
On your application form show off your achievements and relate to how MBDA could value from your qualities. Don't be afraid to big yourself up! On the assessment day, just be yourself, try your best and if you put the effort in, MBDA will definitely see it!
