  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • smart energy expert - going to customers houses and installing smart meters and dealing with other meter issues such as off supplies and faulty meters daily interactions are with customers and with other team members as well as our offices.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • learnt a lot to do with electrics and gas as well as getting my MOCOPA and Gas safe qualifications to do the job with these kills and the functional skills that i have received will help me further in my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • was really good the teachers and LDMs were very knowledgable and the experiences they had had on the field doing the job that we do was also helpful and the culture of safety through out the company is also a good thing as means you feel more confident in what your doing

  • 4. How valued do you feel by British Gas?
  • I do feel appreciation from my SEM and coaches as well but don't hear much from above them as do receive calls from coaches and SEMS to say if done something good or if sending pics of works they are very quick to praise team members

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the support that i received i thought was very good especially in support and monitoring as always had help from other if needed the structure i feel was pretty good as knew what was going on all the time and the resources and material we had were good quality as well

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • i get a lot of support if i need it from coaches on my patch they are only a call away and always happy to help and drive to you to help if needed as well if i was stuck on anything and I always get some good tips from them even just about day to day life in the job

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • when an apprentice its hard but you see the bigger picture once qualified it opens up and earning potential is fantastic i feel with the overtime and the rest day working and out of hours work and bonus schemes they have means can take home a very good wage

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • to be honest not really done much as concentration has been on this and arranging my wedding and do not get much time for stuff outside of work but do socialise with my friends and go out to the gym as and when i can and weekends off i do get chance to relax

  • 9. Would you recommend British Gas to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • really good company with some fantastic opportunities for people especially if changing careers completely which is what i have done and have gone from knowing not a lot on the electric and gas side of things to being a fully qualified engineer and able to do my job efficiently


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Gas?
  • be honest be ready to learn and be positive as be times that get you down but the support you get will always get you through as the LDMs and SEMs and coaches are there to support you and get you through and the teaching they pass on is so valuable and useful and helpful in getting the qualifications
