As a smart energy expert my role involves the installation of smart meters for both gas and electricity. This also involves guiding customers through the benefits of smart technology
My technical skills have improved dramatically during the apprenticeship due to the nature of the job. My ability to take in technical information has developed as the course includes various modules with examinations.
The course has been very enjoyable as it has had a good mixture of both practical and academic work. The course has developed my skills gradually over its period and has made me ready for working once completed
My role in British gas is that of a close knit team and I feel that I have become a valuable member of that team. The training has also been personal to me and has not been taught without taking into consideration the values of individuals.
My apprenticeship is a mix of learning at academy and on the job work with qualified engineers. I feel that these two aspects have worked well together and the training has been progressive and in line with what is expected of me
I have been supported throughout my training and have been given one to one support when I have needed it. This support has been present in both the academy and patch aspects.

The starting wage for this apprenticeship is fairly low and would prevent some people from starting a career with British gas. However the salary increases throughout the year as you become more competent and you are also equipped with a brand new van, tablet and phone.
At this point in the apprenticeship I have not seen any opportunity's outside of work.
Yes
The British gas apprenticeship has set me up for a career with lots of opportunities and has done so with an enjoyable teaching program and an attractive salary package.
British gas are looking for people with good customer service skills and the ability to learn new information. With this in mind I would say the programme is open to a variety of people and not only those that are technically minded
