Electrical and Control instrumentation apprentice, (EC&I) . Carrying out maintenance tasks and faultfinding at South Humber Bank Power station. Also completing 2 HNC's in Electrical engineering and Process control
I have gained many qualifications throughout my time as an apprentice, I have finished 1 NVQ in Renewable Energy and am currently working towards 2 more NVQ's in Electrical and Control and Instrumentation. I have learnt lots of new skills associated with working on electrical equipment safely.
I enjoy the programme because I work with a good team, I am always learning new things and the work is interesting. I am also gaining good qualifications which will benefit me.
Centrica - I feel valued by management and the department I work in. Whenever I am able to help it is always appreciated by others and they show their appreciation.
My programme is very well structured, I have a set training day on Monday to do my HNC and this is set so it never conflicts other plans at work. Any courses I believe that could be beneficial I can communicate with my manager and if he believes it will benefit then it will be arranged. I have frequent meetings with my managers and NVQ assessor. I know who to report to and if I want to see a job as I believe it will benefit me then I can.
Any support I need I can email my point of contact and he will get back to me very quickly. Also any problems I can bring up and review with him at my periodic reviews.
I receive lots of support from my employer, I am confident that if I had an issue they would be able to help. Since starting I have had no issues. My managers are all very approachable and are always supportive.
I believe my salary is suitable and does suitably cover me for living costs, travel costs and social costs etc.
Centrica have put on lots of team building days during the time I have been here. With the maintenance department we have also arranged to do a tough mudder this year for charity.
