We were allocated into teams and I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Goldman Sachs Audit team. As I had a buddy it was quite a comfortable environment and I was given tasks that were real and part of the teams work as opposed to case studies. Not once did I have to photocopy or scan documents!
This helped me exercise my communication skills. I was put into an unknown environment and had to adapt, however this was not difficult as everyone was very friendly. I also developed my IT skills as the work was very much based on a laptop that they provided.
I enjoyed the programme very much as I was able to learn new things at a firm that is very respectable. The staff are very welcoming and there was not a point at which I felt isolated as I was a work experience student.
I felt valued as even though I was only a work experience student I wasn't isolated or made to feel below them. I was taken to meetings and I was given work to do as opposed to the typical work experience student who would usually be scanning and photocopying.
It was a very well structured programme with an induction and a day at the end where all the regions were at one office. Throughout the week there was a webinar on skills to prepare us for applying for jobs in the future and our buddies had our days planned out.
As I was only there for a week I did not receive any training however, learning about the school leavers and graduate programmes demonstrated that there is a lot of training provide for on the job.
As I was not there long enough I cannot comment on this, however, I was able to attend meetings with managers where they helped junior staff and advised them on how to do things which showed that there is help and support available.
We were paid the living wage and lunch was paid for by the buddies. On the last day I had to travel from London to Reading which was reimbursed.
I was unable to experience these as I was only there for a week but I was made aware of social activities that are available.
Yes
It was a nice environment to be working in with great people. The pay for work experience is great as many places do not give you anything. It was overall a nice environment to be in.
The application process was quite long as there were many steps. I would advise applicants to practice verbal and numerical reasoning tests and read around the company for the interview.
