Each day differed. On the first it was a trip to the London head office to have skills sessions and be introduced to the programme. The second to fourth days were a placement at a local office. Mine was Reading and I was allocated to the Audit department. Over the three days, I assisted on different parts of different audits shadowing a different person each day. On my fourth day, I was on-site whilst shadowing, which was very interesting and exciting. The final day was a presentation at a regional office. Mine was, once again, London. Here we were split into groups and given a live task which we presented at the end of the day.
I think I learnt a lot about Audit specifically as my knowledge on the subject was very scarce before this programme. I also learnt about PwC and its work environment. In terms of developing existing skills, I think my communication improved and the skills days definitely enhanced my presentation skills.
I greatly enjoyed this programme. It was a great way to meet people and build a professional network. I also feel I learnt a lot as most of the things I was exposed to, I had never seen before.
Very valued. Having a paid placement in Year 12 is almost unheard of so having an opportunity like this makes me feel very valued. During the programme, too, travel expenses were paid and we had lots of privileges.
It was both well organised and well structured. The first and last days framed the week, with the first day helping us understand what the week would entail and the last letting us use the skills we had gained throughout the week. During the three day placement, the days were well organised too with allocation of mentors clearly outlined to us.
Quite a lot. The first day was very detailed in outlining all the departments of PwC and then during the other three days our mentor on each day outlined specific thing we needed to know.
Quite a lot. The first day was very detailed in outlining all the departments of PwC and then during the other three days our mentor on each day outlined specific thing we needed to know. They were also very generous with travel costs.
Incredibly well. PwC covered travel costs so the salary was well above what we could possibly use for lunch each day. Lunch was also provided on day 1 and 5 so lunch was 3 days was the only cost incurred which the salary very easily.
As this was only a one week placement, there were no specific opportunities outside of work but I don't think anyone expected there to be or required there to be.
Yes
This was honestly a great placement which gives great exposure and networking opportunities whilst you learn a lot. It was generally all just a positive experience.
I'd say put time and effort into the application process because it is worth it. Specifically for the telephone interview, make sure to spend time doing some real preparation and feeling very comfortable whilst talking.
