test & trials apprentice involved in planning trials for prototype vehicle/ components and testing. Work with all functions within BAE along with the MOD customer when out on trials. I am currently preparing to start conducting my own trials
I will have achieved an NVQ lvl 3 and an HNC at the end of my apprenticeship. I have had numerous training courses In health and safety as well as instrumentation. I have learnt a lot about report writing and talking to the customer.
I greatly enjoy the work I do - it is interesting and always different. the company is will to help with finding you opportunities and supports you when required
I feel valued by BAE, as I have progressed through the scheme my work has became more recognised. the customer also recognises the work I do by writing reports about the job I have carried out
due to the fact I have the first intake of apprentices on this site for a number of years the course had little structure, this does seem to have improved with the following years however I often feel like I have to find my own way
the external training provider is poor when it comes to the quality of teaching. they often do not attend lecture and are very lacklustre. I feel that college does not provide the level of education I feel is required in order to support my work
all employees within BAE value apprentices and treat them with respect. they are always willing to help and guide us in the right direction. they always make time for us no matter how silly the question is
the salary increases each year and is far higher than the average national apprentice wage.
There are always STEM related and extra curricula activities available and BAE are always looking for early careers volunteers to support any opportunity that may arise.
Yes
BAE are a fantastic company to work for - they provide you with as much support as you need to become a successful engineer. their products are interesting and you will always be doing something different in your day to day job.
you need a strong basic understanding of the engineering environment and some way of showing an interest in engineering preferably though a project you have done outside of work
