My daily tasks involve accounting and learning different procedures in the IB as well as doing day to day roles such as the P&L, learning about funding of trades, reconillaication and commentary on movements in different P&Ls. Daily the role changes due to the fast paced environment of the financial role, but with the brilliant support of other employees it is easy to fit in and take up many responsibilities of your own.
Weekly we have an apprentice meetingS where we develop personal skills such as presentation skills and personal branding. Additionally we have meet a leader sessions where we get to meet a variety of different leader from across the business, which builds up are networking skills. there are many additional training courses you can take from learning about derivatives to learning about the business overview.
I have enjoyed the program due the variety of different rotations we get put in which gives us the chance to see technical and retail roles. I also enjoy this role as there is so much left to learn and everyone is so friendly which means that it is easy to enjoy your self in this work based setting.
Barclays wants to recognize the value everyone brings to its company, whether its from succeeding at work or running a fun raiser scheme there will be internal appreciation. There are monthly 'shout outs' to the employees of Barclays to recognize nominated employees achievements. This means that everyone at Barclays can feel valued.
My programme is structured into 4 years- the first two you complete levels 2 to 4 of the AAT and the in the third and forth year you can complete the ACCA award. There is an optional forth year to find a permanent role and to finish your qualifications. Weekly we have an apprentice meeting where we develop personal skills such as presentation skills and personal branding. Additionally we have meet a leader sessions once a month where we get to meet a variety of different leader from across the business, which builds up are networking skills.
We have monthly calls with our training provider (BBP) as well as study sessions and class room centers in their building. In the monthly call you be given a personal tutor who you can go to about any study or exam worries, additionally the tutors will make sure your up to date with homework and that you are ready to pass your exams.
There is lots of support from Barclays, they want you to do the best you can do. Every apprentice team will have a group of learning supervisors to make sure that you are getting a long in your rotations. Additionally you will get a mentor this is just someone who is there to help you on your Barclays journey- you will have monthly meetings with them where you can catch up with each other.
The salary is generous and there is also an additionally London waiting allowance. All lessons and exams are paid for by Barclays. My apprenticeship is London based which means that my commute is by the tube, by buying a annual oyster card this meant that I reduced cost for myself, additionally the London waiting that Barclays allocates out on top of your wage should cover living and travel expenses.
Yes Barclays has lots of opportunities other than work they have a networking events once a month and they have a great volunteering program. Barclays are a worldwide multi national company and have lots of opportunities to get involved in from football to chess club, this provides lots of opportunities to network.
Yes
I would recommend Barclays as it has a well structured scheme and lots of support. The scheme is very flexible and the rotations that you get put on are suited to your strengths and weaknesses. Barclays has a brilliant culture where everyone is engaged and wants to get involved, which means it is easy to fit into any rotation and perform well at work.
Be yourself. On the assessment days and interviews just relax and have fun. They want to see your true colors. Barclays want people that will fit in with the business and by being yourself this will make it easier for the interviewers to judge. Also at the assessment day ask questions about peoples roles, this makes you seem interactive and keen to work.
