  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is Branch Manager. I am responsible for a team of over 20 staff across three sites. I am accountbale for the performance across a balanced scorecard for these three sites.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I would not be in my current role if it wasn't for the Barclays Degree Program. As part of this program i initially completed 4 rotations in different areas to gain the skills and knowledge i needed to obtain my permanent role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been challenging and frustrating with a lack of communication from Barclays being the route cause of this frustration. Having said this i do believe you get out what you put in and working hard has allowed me to make the most of the programme.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Barclays?
  • I feel extremely valued to be given the opportunity to further my career with a fully funded degree and time off to study frequently. You can directly see how this has beneffited my work and has allowed me to secure a permenent role.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme as eluded to in an earlier comment at times felt disjointed and poorly organised. Again i feel this comes down to a lack of communication. I appreciate that the programme has many people enrolled but due to the complexity often line managers in the business line cannot provide the support needed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Anglia Ruskin University have been trully fantastic. Having not attended university before i found all the learning engaging and a pleasure to be a part of. Communication was excellent and feedback timely. I could not recommend enough the university and associated team.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from the employer was in the form of fortnightly study days. These were crucial as there was a lot of work to do for university in your own time and this allowed you time to read and research.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salarty hasn't increased since joining the degree program however i can account for this as a lot of money was invested into my training. However having now secured a permenant role i am very happy with my salary and associated benefits.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There were several opportunities to complete citizenship events alongside the work that Barclays already competes. These were engaging and builds your network beyond the confines of the normal working environment.

  • 9. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been with Barclays 5 years and have found the progression to be excellent. Senior leaders are approachable and engaging. There is the right amount of challenge and the rewards are there to be had.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • You will get out of Barclays what you put into it. The opportunities are there but you need to be self motivated and driven to achieve your goals while attributing to a values driven culture.
