I am a project assistant, my role involves assisting project/programme managers on a daily basis with organising meetings/calls, keeping the project plans up to date and keeping track of any problems that may arise.
This has improved my communication skills with stakeholders as we have been given a lot of exposure to senior managers and people high up the bank. I have also learnt a lot of project management, something I knew very little about before.
This is a brilliant programme to help give you a start in the very competitive world of projects. I enjoy the culture of LBG however I do feel like the apprenticeship scheme could be a little more structured as various apprentices have different experiences.
I feel like the LBG are very keen to help me progress throughout my career, as clearly shown by other apprentices who have gone on to graduate and secure higher grade roles.
There has been a lack of communication between LBG and PDS who run the apprentice side of things, however a lot of frustration has been with PDS as opposed to LBG but this has made it a frustrating experience at times
More support and guidance from our assessor would have been helpful as it was a struggle to understand how to write our coursework and was a bit of a guess for most of us. Our tutor sessions to prepare us for the exams are brilliant, the tutor is a project manager in between teaching so has a lot of real life experience which is very helpful
I'm given allocated time to perform my apprentice work and tasks and have regular 1-2-1's with my line manager to check that my work load is suitable
The salary/package is very good considering the age and lack of work experience for most apprentices. There are also great bonus opportunities to reflect your hard work
Outside of work there isn't many activities apart from volunteering opportunities like day to make a difference however I haven't yet participated in this. I will look to do so in the future.
Yes
The reputation of LBG makes it a great company to work for. The apprenticeship scheme gives you a great opportunity to enter a field of work that would be difficult to enter without the opportunity of the apprenticeship
The application process is quite long and at times can be tough as things like video interviews maybe unfamiliar. Bare with the process and weeks of waiting because it's worth it. Remember that they don't want to hire a project manager, they tend to focus on your personality and if you have the opportunity to be moulded into a good PM, experience isn't necessary. If you make it through to the final assessment day make the effort to smile and talk and be open and friendly through the whole day, not just the time you're in an interview.
