I am a Higher Level Project Manager Apprentice working within a small team within the Rectifications and Special Projects of Retail Change. I attend daily huddles, weekly team meetings and fortnightly PMG meetings. I update status reports and risks and issues and present them at the meetings.
I am using Microsoft Project and CMT for the first time and developing my stakeholder relationship skills. I am an older apprentice (age 50) so I have many years of transferrable work skills and experience
Very much, I enjoy the day-to-day responsibilities, the coursework is going well and the workshops are pitched at the right level by a very knowledgeable leader.
I am treated very well by my colleagues and have very supportive Line and Task Manager. There is also an excellent support network for current and existing apprentices within LBG. LBG is committed to recruiting 8000 apprentices by the year 2020 so is very supporting.
The induction was 3 months which I felt was too long for me as I was an internal applicant. The training and support offered both internally and externally is excellent, especially the workshops which we attend throughout the course.
My workshop leader is excellent and very supportive. My assessor responds to emails within a day or so. I have not felt the need for any extra support from my training provider so I believe the level of support offered is appropriate.
My Line Manager and Task Manager are supportive to my development needs and allow me enough time out of my day job to complete my apprenticeship work. I have a mentor and a buddy. I am also given training to support my career progression through management.
As an internal applicant, my salary is higher than that of the external apprentices on my cohort. I'm very happy with the level of salary and benefits offered by LBG.
I am involved in fundraising for our chosen charity and am allowed paid time off for this. I have also volunteered to go to our local college to support their Apprentice day.
Yes
Working within LBG is a career for life, if you want it to be. There are endless opportunities and personal / career development is heavily supported.
The application process is fairly rigorous and I had to pass through several stages before being selected. Saying that though, I haven't looked back since and am looking forward to a successful career within Project Management within LBG!
