I am a migration project manager. Essentially, I am moving exchange traded derivative instructive files (specifically future and options) from a legacy manual processing platform to the newly built system. In essence I am automating a manual process. This has an overall full time employee save of 11. I work with a global team and speak to India and America on a daily basis. I engage with multiple stakeholders from different teams dependent on what part of the project I'm up to. For example, I engaged with an operations team from India to learn how to analyse the files, a technology team from India when it came to writing the code to standardise the trade data output and an American team for strategy. I am currently in the testing stage. I am testing that the standardised trade data produced is correct and in the right format.
I have learnt many new skills. I have achieved numerous qualifications: - CISI Certificate in Investment Operations - CISI Certificate in Risk in the Financial Services Industry - CISI Certificate Introduction to Financial Investments and Securities - CISI International Certificate in Wealth and Investment Management I have represented J.P. Morgan at a national event. I developed the ability to engage with external personnel and inform on the entry level programmes that J.P. Morgan offer along with giving presentations to over 30 individuals. I have attended numerous training courses offered by J.P. Morgan internally. These range from anti money laundering to cyber. Within my day to day work, I have learnt how to write basic code for a unique application. This is something that I never thought that I would have been able to do prior to the apprenticeship. I couldn't even write an excel formula! I have learnt how to plan and document a project that spans over many countries, how to engage individuals from a wealth of different cultures and further manage multiple team's prioritized interests.
I really enjoy the progamme. I have been given so many opportunities to excel in areas that I simply did not believe that I could. I really enjoy my team and the culture that is enforced within the workplace. It is a friendly, but professional environment. As an individual you have the opportunity to develop as much as you want to and I thoroughly enjoy it.
I feel massively valued by J.P. Morgan. The initial opportunity to work at an international investment bank is incredible. But combine that with the ongoing opportunities to develop any part of yourself that you wish to develop is something that I feel is very unique to the J.P. Morgan apprenticeship. I feel incredibly valued as both an individual within the apprenticeship and also as a team member within my day to day work team.
The structure of the programme is second to none. We have 4 days a week of doing real work in the office, developing the key vocational skills that will help us excel in a full time job once we complete the programme, as well as 1 day a week to study for finance related qualifications. The perfect combination that really helps give the apprentice a healthy balance of knowledge and practical training which has allowed me to really excel in my day to day work.
My training provider has always been incredibly supportive and available at all times should I wish to contact them. They have provided great lectures every Friday that really gave me sufficient knowledge to go and pass all my exams first time. They have also conducted regular catch up sessions where they ensure that everything is going well in my day to day job and overall team and ensure that I am happy doing what I am doing.
My dirct team have been incredible. They have given me enough training, belief and responsibility to allow me to excel in my work. I have recently achieved the highest end of year grade prossible in the bank and a large part of that is due to the incredible level of support you receive at all times. The apprenticeship team have been amazing as well. They have always made time to see you if you want to and genuinely care about your well being as well as your professional work.
My salary has allowed me to relocate from Birmingham to Bournemouth and live a great life for 18 months. It is more than sufficient and also a very competitive salary for an apprenticeship.
Bournemouth as a location is great. There is always so much going on! I have represented J.P. Morgan at football and at numerous events external to work. There are always charitable events going on that any individual can sign up to, or get involved with any of the sports clubs that run. The social scene in Bournemouth is also brilliant on the weekends to let your hair down!

It has given me the opportunity to learn so much about the financial industry and one of the largest investment banks in the world. I am moving to London after my apprenticeship finishes and there is simply no way I would have been able to make that step without the grounding and knowledge that the apprenticeship gives you. It truly is a great scheme at a great company that gives you the opportunity to go as far as you want to.
Research the company. Know the industry. Know yourself. Be able to evidence all that you say about yourself.
