I work in the Tax department maintaining internal accounts and monitoring various controls we have in the department, hence the job title 'Tax Accounts and Controls'. This is not client based, but I have to talk to a variety of internal teams across the globe daily, so technically they are my clients. I have a set list of tasks to complete every day and then some weekly and monthly responsibilities too.
I have learned to use Microsoft Excel extensively and continue to develop communication skills in the industry. I have a knowledge of Tax that I didn't before joining and understand JP Morgan's Tax services for their clients. I have also had exams on the industry as a whole and have learnt a great deal about Financial Services in the UK.
The programme is a drastic transition from school but one that helps you mature and learn quickly and these changes are vital for early successes. I do enjoy the balance of work and a day of study.
I feel valued in the fact JP Morgan appreciates young talent and departments are willing to take on fresh faces with no experience. During the application process I got to meet a variety of managers before starting and they were all eager for the programme which encouraged me more.
The teaching of the exam contact and exams were structured very well and the support is great from mentors and teachers. The whole day of study per week is very helpful allowing us to really focus on passing the apprenticeship.
The training provider is great support as any emails sent are responded to very quickly and with clear direction. They are eager to help us pass and give pointers and guidance whenever we need it.
Having one day a week for study shows the company is supportive of the programme enough to allow part-time work. My manager understands the importance of the day/apprenticeship and I am confident he will provide support should I need it.
I am lucky to have moved out at 18 but the cost shock is great, but a good salary to support these costs is fantastic. I can pay all my bills and have leisure money to spend throughout the month.
There are a variety of sports teams and events to go along with these sports, for example a whole weekend of running and cycling. I took part in this in July 2016 and it was a fantastic experience.
Yes
It is a great way to build a great network and a great basic knowledge of the Financial industry both by education and by daily practice in your roles.
Be confident and willing to learn. Taken every opportunity that presents itself to you as you can learn so many new skills and meet so many new people.
