My job Title is a Technology Apprentice working within the service delivery function. My daily interactions are with a number of teams for planning of support for key events and projects that are potentially brand impacting. Each day is different.
I've learnt how to use a number of programs including Miscrosoft visio for process diagrams and pipeline planning. There are both internal and external courses that were offered to me as a part of the apprenticeship. I don't think the external courses offered by my apprenticeship provider directly relate to what I do in my role - for example i do not do networking in my job but was required to take a networking course. I've developed on my public speaking and communication skills from presenting and talking in meetings and speaking engagement to promote apprenticeships at Sky.
I am the youngest person in my team but have a good working relationship with all of them. The culture at Sky is great for technology. Its a fast paced environment but we are given all the tools to keep up and work successfully. I'm lucky enough to work at the HQ with the BEST facilities - gym, restaurants, great tech, a cinema.. the list goes on.I thoroughly have enjoyed my apprenticeship.
Through the years it was easy to kind of feel undervalued or insignificant in such a big company but i'm constamntly getting recognition for the work I do from a couple people in my team and my mangager. It was nice to also be given a bonus.
In terms of study everything was well organised - i'd always know far in advance when my training was booked and what it was. In terms of the work side; my apprentice is made of secondments in different areas. I didn't always know how long I would be spending in a team or where my next secondment would be.
I had to switch Assessors 6 months into my apprenticeship but i'm so glad! The one I have is so great! He's always avaialable to help me out and gives great advice in terms of advice.
My manager is really supportive - we have fortnightly meetings in which he encourages me and helps me work out where I want to go in terms of career progression. I was givena buddy at the start of my apprenticeship but they weren't much help or needed really.
Let's be serious, everyone wants more money, but I am lucky to work for a company that is doing very well and pay's very well. I am on more than all my peers. For me travel costs are the most as I drive from quite far, but overall my salary meets my needs.
Loads. I have been to loads of speaking engagements encouraging young women to get into technology. I still have time to do my activities outside of work with friends and family because of my flexible working. Sky allow each employees 2 paid days a week to take part in charity work, which is lovely.
Yes
Good pay, good people, good facilities.
BE PASSIONATE. I didn't have any technology experience but one thing that stood out was my passion. Make sure you take your time when applying and prepare as much as possible and be positive :)
