My role is as a software engineer as part of the software engineering academy. This has me completing a range of tasks that enabling me to have an active role as a Sky developer from the start of my apprenticeship, enabling me to work with other apprentices as well as fully fledged developers
I have learnt a variety of new coding languages in my time at Sky, as well as developing my overall knowledge as a programmer and the process of developing systems. Not only this my skills in a business setting have also been improved enabling me to develop skills such as presenting a product.
I enjoy my programme greatly, due to the variety it offers in the instance of both the products as well as the range of people I am able to meet and work with.
I feel very valued by Sky, being constantly brought to events as well as being embedded into a team. Not only this the products created are viewed by high members of staff who give their feedback and praise on the products themselves directly to us.
the programme is well organised having a structured system that we were informed of from the beginning. With this we are aware of where we are at any current time and what the process of our development will be like.
We receive support as and when it is necessary upon our own request. Sometimes the support offered can be a bit vague; however, they will continue to explain points until we have obtained clarity
Within Sky we have always been given contacts to get in touch with when certain issues arise, not only this but those around us are willing to help and help us develop our skills.
My salary meets all costs that are required for me to travel and feed myself, not only this there is a variety of subsidised food and drink available on campus to reduce the costs of any necessities throughout the day.
There are a range of experiences available, from team trips where you will go out and get to know the team you are working with more often covered by expenses, as well as opportunities to volunteer and help other departments such as the starting out team.
Yes
Overall it offers a great experience to apprentices, offering the necessary support whilst still enabling you to feel a valid member of a delivery team as well as having an important role in Sky as a whole.
The advice i would give is to display your ability to clearly communicate with those around you and easily establish good working relationships with those you come across as well as displaying a passion for the role you do.
