The work experience programme was rather formal, and well structured. In the morning we would have a talk on a specialisation of Pinsent Masons, and then in the afternoon we would shadow a trainee solicitor - each day, we changed department. The work itself, where it existed, was just administrative. However, this was not an issue - the office environment was professional, and quite engaging if one is prepared to immerse oneself in the role. The greatest frustration was not being given anything to do, or having mythical tasks fished out of mid-air that would be of no use to anybody. This was the case for 2 of the 4 days I was working there. The other 2 were thoroughly enjoyable and eye-opening.
I'm afraid to say I didn't develop any new skills. I did, however, augment my time management, organisational, and administrative abilities.
The people were considerate, engaging and generally positive influences. The best part of the week, however, was outside of the office - the commuting, the lunch break, and the train journey home after a satisfying day's work. Ultimately, it gave me an insight into the 'London experience'.
To be clear and frank, I was insignificant. This placement was for me, not for Pinsent Masons.
Very - see #1.
The organiser of the work experience programme was contactable via email and telephone, however, we never met face to face.
IT support was excellent. Trainee solicitors were great - easy to talk to, and provided me with useful information.
There was non reimbursement of costs. This was a shame, as train travel for an unpaid week is costly.
