I am a business admin apprentice, my role consists of diary management for my team and also day to day admin tasks that can range from organising meetings, setting up conference rooms, ordering stationery and booking travel.
During my apprenticeship I have developed many of my skills, I think that I an better at communicating within the business now as I have made contacts in different areas of the business. I have developed my skills in prioritisation of tasks to meet deadlines also.
I love my job. The teams that I have been on are really friendly and there was a wide range of work to complete each day. Working at BAE Systems is better than I expected it would be and I enjoy it a lot.
During my time at BAE Systems I have been recognised for my work, I have received a Pride recognition award as well as Apprentice of the month, I think that this is a really good way to show not just apprentices but all employees that the work they're doing is worthwhile.
During my apprenticeship I had my NVQ assessor move to a new role and my assessor now works in Preston whilst im in Barrow. I don't think this is very beneficial to my programme as we have one to ones on a monthly basis rather than fortnightly previously. I think that this has had an impact on our level of understanding of our apprenticeship as we have to wait a while for our questions to be answered.
when my assessor is on sight it is really good, she answers all my question and we go through my NVQ on a 1:1 basis. however when she isn't on site it takes a while for questions to be answered and for work to be looked at.
I think that the support BAE Systems provide to employees is really good, we have the employee helpline for any issues we may have and my line manager is really friendly so I feel like if I have any issues I can talk to him.
I think that the wage I am on is really good for my age and for being an apprentice. However when I come out of my time and become a homeowner etc without overtime I may struggle.
Within BAE Systems there are many events and activities to take part in, I an on the Local Apprentice Council, I have been given opportunities to help out at open days and company events.
Yes
I think that BAE Systems is one of the best places to work, it opens so many doors to opportunities that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. There is always something to get involved in.
When going for an interview at BAE Systems I think it is important to learn the role you are applying for and if possible speak to someone in the role.
