Business Apprentice I'm currently in Project Planning which involves assistance in the organisation of upcoming events whilst being part of working groups around the country.
My computer skills have improved, whilst I believe I've developed confidence in myself and my abilities during my time at BAE Systems.
The culture this company stands for is brilliant, their work life balance culture is so good for a company of this size and capability. In addition, each team I've worked for are so welcoming and really want to assist you in your career development.
Out of all the work I do, my manager discussed the work with me whilst offering assistance and guidance throughout. I have many opportunities to get involved with meetings and events up and down the country both, internally and eternally.
I believe the apprenticeship programme has a wide variety of support networks from assessors, to supervisors through to managers and mentors. everyone within this network understands the programme and is always willing to help.
I see my supervisor on a regular basis in which he joins me in my work placement for a catch up and to see how I'm doing. Additionally, responses to emails are rapid which can include answers to questions or if I need a and with anything.
I understand who and where to contact individuals that I may need from the HR team, Ethics team and Health & Safety etc. within our induction we were given presentations by each and understand their needs and purposes.
Personally, I find my salary meets my costs due to living at home and near the BAE Systems sites so I don't have to travel too far, I keep thinking how much better it is than university and you're being paid!
I attend several company events a month including conferences and working groups, additionally BAE Systems host several charity events for their chosen charity of the year so I attend those when and where possible. Furthermore, company events are well advertised on the intranet so you know whenever something's going on!
Yes
Personally, this opportunity works really well for myself. - well paid - learning on the job - networking opportunities - no exams - no debt - consistent guidance and support - work life balance
I think the most important thing is to be yourself, and to really want it. This is potentially your work place for a very long time if you succeed so you really have to want it and enjoy a challenge!
