Apprentice Electrician, daily tasks include carrying out a variety of submarine based tasks which can include wiring up devices to creating brackets to installation of electrical devices. I interact with a variety of people daily from other trades and other positions within the business. Currently working on a non sub based tasked which involves a lot of connection wiring and cable looming.
I have gained my HND level 2 in a number of core subjects including electrical and mechanical as well as mathematics. Along side this I am aiming to complete my NHC by applying this year. In the business there are a number of additional skills you can gain such as fibre optic cable training.
I have enjoyed the most of my apprenticeship, some areas rate lower than over but overall the apprenticeship as a whole is excellent. I get along with most people I meet and they see apprentices as equals rather than someone below them.
I feel very valued by BAE and I don't feel like I am just a number on a clocking machine. All the managers I have encountered have been excellent and have encouraged me throughout the apprenticeship so far.
The program is well structured with excellent support from the apprentice team whenever you have an issue, and most of the time the issue is sorted out relatively fast.
We receive an excellent level of support and get help whenever needed and they take problems into account and can be very supportive of these problems.
Again excellent level of support, cannot fault the employer.
I travel for a over 2 hours a day and the cost of travel has increased since starting to this could be the only issue I can find because of the increase in the cost of public transport. The wage is okay but it doesn't compare to many of the other apprentice wages around the area and even when I come out of my time the flat wage is lower than average for someone in my position in a city or at another firm, this is a problem across the site.
There are a number of opportunies outside of work people can partake in.
Yes
Its an excellent company to work for, with some excellent benefits.
Make sure you put effect into the interview stage with a highly interesting project that will show off your skills you are apply to use.
