I am a wealth management apprentice at UBS. My role varies daily, I do things such as admin tasks to aiding in producing client statements and dealing with their queries. I get to rotate to different desks every 3 months which allows me to have expose to different people and cultures.
Having tasks that vary on a day to day basis means I am constantly learning and developing my skills. I never go home without having learnt something new, whether it be about a system, the company or even myself. Our qualification we gain is the IOC of which before each hand we go on a learning day at BPP and there they teach us the syllabus.
I enjoy my job most of the time but like most things there is good and bad days, of which I have many more good than bad. I like my current team and have fun at the same time as being productive, which makes the day go quicker and the jobs seem easier. Everyone on my team is different and that's why I like it as I can diversify my knowledge which is all part of the journey.
As UBS is a large company it is definitely harder to get recognition from people higher up as they do not really know what we do on a daily basis. But from people like Desk heads or our team in general I think they notice and appreciate when we do a good job and when praise is needed.
This apprenticeship is only 3 years in, so I think its normal that it is now yet fully developed and perfect. I am happy to be a guinea pig in this company and apprenticeship to help improve it for future years.
BPP is our training provided. We have names numbers and email addresses of which we can get in contact with if we ever needed to. They also email us on a regular basis which is good.
Our line manager is easy to talk to and very understanding. This makes it very easy if anything was to arise.
My travel is my biggest expense of which I think all of us apprentices would agree would be helpful if UBS covered it for us as our wage isn't sufficient to meet all our needs when taking into consideration the cost of travel. Also, eating everyday all adds up so it would be nice if we could have the canteen at a discount.
Yes, there are different teams that organize events which you can get involved with. Emails go round so that you can enroll yourself
Yes
UBS is a great place to work and they really value your work, time and effort. The people are the best and very welcoming and willing to help. I never feel alone or undervalued and this motivates me to succeed.
The actual application process isn't that difficult, pretty self-explanatory. The phone interview was good and something that I had never experienced before, so even if I hadn't had got the job I still would of taken that experience and new experience with me. The assessment day wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, in fact it was pretty relaxed and I think most of us felt as ease. Once we had done the assessment day we then got invited back to 2 interviews which was more nerve racking as it was 1 to 1. After this we had the onboarding process which UBS hire a third party to do the vetting on us, which is quite intense and probably the worst part as the company are not the most competent and ask the same information many times. After you are cleared on this they take you away to the lake district for 5 days for team building which is definitely an experience.
