I am an apprentice sewer modeller and work alongside Scottish Water to resolve flooding to remove properties from the Scottish Water Flooding Register. The main software I use is called info works which is software developed specifically for sewer modelling. My day to day activates mainly consist of updating models such as entering new survey data and building flooding mechanisms into the model as well as solutions to resolve the flooding in the area. I also play a part in the admin side of things including allocating collages to jobs and building up invoices for costing. I have to work extremely closely with my collages as we can all be working on similar projects at the same time and can share lots of knowledge and information which I really enjoy.
I have learnt a massive amount of new skills since starting at Atkins including lots of different aspects of the modelling software as well becoming much more competent with the projects I’m working on and exactly why things are done the way they are and how the flooding solutions I’m installing physically work. I have received of both internal and external training from both Atkins training systems and collages and also from doing a HNC at Glasgow Kelvin College.
I have extremely enjoyed the program so far as I feel Atkins is a great company to work for and gives you endless opportunity’s to progress within and throughout your career. I also really like the people I work alongside who are always extremely friendly and happy to help when I need it and I am very interested in the work I am doing and learning new things every day.
I feel extremely valued within Atkins as when I do good work it is instantly recognised and appreciated and in reviews good work does not go unnoticed and it is passed onto different people around the business who then ask me for help on certain tasks they know I have done work on before. I also feel I am given important tasks and projects which makes me feel like a real part of the team.
It is very well organised and covers everything for the start as well as keeping records or what training programs you have done and suggests what you should do next and also on more unique tasks where pacific training is needed it is always provided. My college work is also well structured and you know exactly what you are working towards and the task within both work and college are both clearly set out so I have clear direction as to what to focus on.
I always receive any help that is needed and I know exactly who to ask if I need any help with specific tasks or as a general help in what I should be focusing on.
I always receive as much support as my employer can give me whilst still giving me the opportunity to grow and figure out what the best way of doing things is for me and every one I work with is always more than hay to help out if needed.
My salary package meets my costs very well and I have never had any issues with it.
There are lots of opportunities outside of work such as events to get to know people and also training opportunities which can really help and they are always available.
Yes
Its and extremely good company to work for and I have really enjoyed all aspects of it so far.
