I am currently an apprentice working in supply chain. I work in the the planning department at Hitchen Foods, processing orders from customers and solving numerous problems that may arise from forecasting.
Since working in Planning I have learnt and developed several skills such as advanced Microsoft Excel skills and organisation. I have recently been on a course to utilise an order system used by ASDA in order to obtain more information that could help with planning.
I enjoy my apprentice program as it is interesting working in live planning environment. Also the university course helps improve my knowledge of food manufacturing.
I feel well valued by Bakkavor and I am supported wherever necessary. My manager recognises my work on a day to day basis and I am often involved with new exciting projects.
I feel my programme is well organised as it is a fair balance of work and University studying. I work 5 days a week and I am introduced to all processes utilised in Planning.
As part of a distance learning course, my learning material is all online. This is delivered in suitable chunks each week which makes studying easier than trying to learn each module all in one. Each month I have a review with my personal tutor to discuss any problems or upcoming university studies.
I receive great support from my employer, as I am provided with time in work to support my studies. I also have a monthly review with my manager and HR to see how I am progressing in both work and University.
The salary package is great for a 1st year apprentice. It suits my lifestyle and covers my outgoing costs.
Outside of work there are not many team building events or exercises.
Yes
I would recommend Bakkavor to a friend as the course offers great development opportunities in a busy industry, and also provides good qualifications to enhance career prospects.
For others applying to Bakkavor I would recommend people be there selves on Assessment days and keep up to date with all college/university work to avoid work mounting up.
