Data Centre Apprentice Review

I am involved in managing the RBS Data Centres. Ensuring that they operate on a day to day basis. I help to manage installs and ensure that when installs happen, they happen to the best standard. Generally keeping the data centre in order and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

I have learnt many new skills in my role and I am always continuing to learn new skills which help me to develop my day to day responsibilities and allow me to take on new ones also. I have also attended courses that have earned me qualifications and certifications that help me in my role on also look very good on my CV. I am aiming to continue on with my learning in the hope that come the end of this year I will be a more valuable member of my team.

I enjoy this program very much. Like previously mentioned it has really allowed me to expand my knowledge of a certain area and give me more of a view on what life is like working in the banks data centre. I imagine that I will continue to learn and develop and enjoy the program.

I feel very valued by RBS. They have offered and still continue to offer so many opportunities to learn and develop new and existing skills. They treat all the apprentices as full time employees and offer us the same opportunities that other staff members do. This helps me to feel more and more valued.

My programme is very well structured and is very easy to understand. I understand when I have learning classes and what the classes are for. The organisation that is put in is very good and is always very understandable. I look forward to taking on my Level 8 Apprenticeship (YEAR 2)

They also are willing to support you in any way shape or form which gives me a vote of confidence whenever I am completing work.

I receive a lot of support from my employer. When I have a question they are quick to answer and give their support which helps me to progress with my day to day job. Any problems I have they are quick to sort also which is a relief to me to know that I have some support during my apprenticeship.

The one thing with this apprenticeship that I cannot complain about is the salary/package as it meets and exceeds my expectations. When I first applied for an apprenticeship it was more for the experience and learning of being in a new area of IT. To me the salary/package was just a bonus on the top of that, however, in general to other apprenticeships the salary/package that RBS offers is absolutely amazing and is enough for any apprentice that is just starting.

There is always an event happening that is hosted by the RBS. I suppose that is a way to keep staff networking and enjoying themselves. I take part in sports and regularly attend the gym whilst also attending sports such as Airsoft etc. This helps me to keep active whilst still enjoying my job in the RBS.

The RBS is an amazing place to work and offers so many different opportunities for young people. As a school leaver I had very little experience of working in an environment like RBS, however, the organisation and the people are so welcoming and supportive and I have progressed very far so far and would like to continue doing this throughout my time in RBS.

My advice when applying to RBS would be to keep calm and be yourself. Be confident about what you want to do and ask any questions to make sure that you yourself understand everything that is going on.
