On a day-to-day basis i am given work by my supervisor and also given a background for what the work is about, what it is for and how to complete it. I am responsible for my own work and now I am further into the apprenticeship i am expected to know more about the work i undertake.
i have developed my computer, math and presenting skills whilst working at BAE. As I primarily work at a computer I now understand what sort of skills i need to develop whilst at work and better understand the databases and program's we use as a company. i have also learnt how to communiate better with other employees.
. i really enjoy the apprenticeship i am on as you meet lots of new people, are able to develop skills you have and learn new ones as well as getting the job experience on top of this too. I like learning as a group with my peers as we can help each other as we complete our apprenticeship too.
I feel very valued at bae systems. In every department i have been into at BAE Systems, I have also felt welcomed and as part of the team. Supervisors and managers are always thinking about what is best for us and to better help us develop and grow within the company as well.
My programme is very organised. Our apprenticeship leader has been working with apprentices for quite a few years now and understands what we need to do in order to complete our apprenticeship and grow in the business. We have never had any problems with our programme and it it well-planned. We get a lot of support from our apprenticeship leaders too.
We receive a lot of support from our training provider. We are always asked if we have any problems or need any help with our work or NVQ/educational aspect to our apprenticeship.I really enjoy my apprenticeship and I think this is mainly because of the support we receive and that we feel part of the company.
. I have various 'employers' during my apprenticeship, Primarily those who look after apprentices within each department. Each supervisor I have come across has always looked after my welfare and made me feel integrated into each department and I am always welcomed to ask questions and get information i need from them too. Their general attitude towards apprentices is always positive.
My salary is really good considering I am an apprentice. I did not start on minimum wage (for an apprentice) at all, and as I have moved up through each stage of my apprenticeship I have had wage rises. I like to think that I can balances my finances well and in a few years' time be able to put a deposit on a house.
We have been given opportunities within BAE Systems to join various support and help groups for the business. I am a part of the STEM Ambassador scheme where we participate in various activities in schools' or school-networking events to promote the company and try to inspire the younger generation and teach them more about engineering.
Yes
The apprenticeship is a really good route into starting a career and it also improves your academic skills and business skills at the same time as being paid. I personally think it is a better route into starting a career rather than going to university (for example) as you have no debts and in most cases, are guaranteed a job.
. I would tell them to be themselves, try hard and show initiative. It is really good practice to learn about the company and the products we make before applying as well as practice your presenting skills and interview skills too. BAE also like employees/apprentices who are charitable and willing to help the community too, so it is always good to show this when talking about yourself.
