I am currently undertaking the role of a Manufacturing apprentice; learning the everyday operations of Business unit 3, understanding new roles and shadowing my team managers. I have been given different responsibilities throughout the different roles within manufacturing and for leading my own learning through project work.
Working for Bakkavor has given me the opportunity to better myself; learn new skills and build upon the existing skills I have acquired throughout my work experience, work on my communication skills via communicating with people throughout the hierarchy within the factory and meeting new people. The team that I currently work within made me feel really welcome when I began; introduced me to the working practices and procedures on site and helped me to settle into my role as an apprentice offering support and guidance.
The Bakkavor culture is unique, holds traditional values of a workplace environment and the interactions, behaviours and attitudes of my colleagues is second to none. I feel that I have been able to build up rapport on a personal level and find it easy to interact with my colleagues.
The highlights of working within this role are; that I have been given different responsibilities throughout the different roles within manufacturing. My manager involves me in all tasks the unit undertakes and always listens to my ideas.
I was attracted to joining the work force at Bakkavor Hitchen Foods as I deem this to be a company where I am able to build a career, form good working relationships and I now have the opportunity for career progression. From day one I was introduced to the Bakkavor Hitchens team and briefed about the day to day operations at Hitchen Foods.
Since beginning a career as a manufacturing apprentice at Bakkavor Hitchen Foods in September 2016, I have gained invaluable knowledge and experience in the following areas: Understanding of the day to day operations, a full training plan was put into place when I started and I am now shadowing my Team Manager(Tutor).
I have been working on a project for a reduction of mash waste to help improve the amount of waste we are dispersing in the factory. Working alongside of engineering, my team managers and production managers. I have been given full support from all the members listed.
As a 20 year old, the salary fits well with me. I can afford a car and still spend most weekends socialising with friends.
The company holds annual 'Fun Days' in order to raise money for select charities and involves the whole factory.
