I am a trainee construction manager. Currently I am responsible for two areas on the project I am on and the trades that work within the areas. Some of the tasks I do are marking up progress, snagging finished works, solving problems, attending meetings and supervising activities on site. My job is really varied no two days are the same and I interact with a variety of different people so it's really fast paced and interesting. The team I work with on my project at Mace are really supportive and have helped me learn about my role in order to give me increased responsibilities and help me in my day to day job.
I have studies construction for a number of years but nothing compares to getting on site experience. I have learnt so much, including terminologies and processes as well as physically being able to put my construction theory knowledge into practice. Through Mace I have attended several training sessions that have developed my knowledge of my role and Mace have also supported me through my HNC qualification.
I really enjoy my programme, I work with an a great team who are really supportive. I have learnt a great deal about construction and the programme has really excelled my expectations.
I have been given more and more responsibilities since I have started at Mace which makes me feel valued. As I have gained in experience and knowledge I have felt more accepted on site and as part of the team.
The programme is really well organised with lots of training and support. We fill out a portfolio of evidence and this is really helpful to go back to. We have sessions of feedback on our progress and have a mentor too.
I have had several issues with my college who provide my HNC training. The main problems I have experienced is staff turnaround and very little teaching and support.
Mace have been really supportive with my last year of my HNC. I can always contact emerging talent if I have any issues with college or other matters.
The salary is excellent and as I am a mobile member of staff and work on site, my travel expenses are covered. The benefits the scheme comes with are also really good.
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer and raise money for charity. Mace have been really supportive especially when I have given presentations to my college about my role.
Yes
