I am currently working for Mace MEP as a trainee M&E engineer. This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions. Because I am still in the first year of my learning I am trying to get as broad a knowledge as possible and I do this by helping engineers with their daily works. This can be anything from analyzing drawings and co-ordination to checking progress on site. I also attend college one day a week where I am studying a HNC in building services. This helps to give me more technical knowledge behind the things I learn on site.
Being on day release to college once a week has allowed me to expand my technical knowledge of building services systems. I have also been put on various internal training courses that cover various topics to help me learn and develop my knowledge of not only the building services industry but also the construction industry as a whole. All trainees are also given a portfolio which has areas that need to be covered for our job role. For me in M&E this means product knowledge about all services as well as mace protocols. Having these in place has enabled me to learn about the industry as well as aid in my development as an engineer and manager.
The team that I have with me at [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] are great. Everyone has taken me under their wing which has allowed me to learn and develop more. We have a good working relationship. The way that mace do things is very in depth which is good. This means that I learn more. I couldn't have expected anything more then what I have got here at [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and I do genuinely enjoy going to work every day.
As trainees Mace very much see us as the future rather then just young learners. This is great because it gives me the opportunity to speak my mind and maybe offer another opinion on something even if I don't fully understand it. my manager sits down with me every week to have a catch up and set me tasks for the future. We also have various group projects outside of our building projects. this gives us the scope to bring in new ideas to mace and the way things are done. One of these group projects is to innovate a new way of doing things within the company and only 50 people have been chosen to be part of it. All 5 of this years M&E trainees have been selected because Mace understand that we bring fresh ideas and a new way of doing things to the team. This again helps us develop and increased our value to the company.
Since day 1 the program has been structured and organized. the training is all well planned out to support what we will need for the future. The college is well managed by Mace and the amount of support from people higher up is great. We were all issued a buddy when we first started at Mace to make us feel more comfortable.
The teaching at college is of a good standard and both of out lecturers are very experienced. The level of support from City Westminster college is good but some times it takes an excessive amount of time to get coursework marked. Having said that I enjoy my time at college and its good to keep learning.
Everyone on my project supports me in my day to day activities. this is from guidance to tasks. This also includes my direct manager and the managers above him. As a whole mace are very supportive. If you every have a problem then there is someone within the company that can and will help you.
My salary is perfect for me at the moment and my role. I couldn't ask for more. There is also a lot of room to improve this salary as I progress with the business. my travel to and from work is also covered in my expenses which allows me to take more of my salary home every month.
There are so many opportunities outside of work. These include social events. Mace also allow you to have a day a year to do charity work. This is good because it gives you the opportunity to give something back as well as allowing you to try different things.
Yes
Mace is a great company to work for and I could ask for a better start in my future career. Therefore for anyone interested in the construction industry you cant start at a better place.
Just be yourself. I'm sure that the managers at mace would see straight through you if you weren't. therefore it is important to be yourself and portray yourself honestly. Make sure you stand out in the group activities for the right reasons, lead and manage the whole process.
