This degree apprenticeship consists of 6 monthly rotations where you get to work in different areas in IT at SSE. At the moment I am working in Enterprise and have been able to work with people, hardware requests, spread sheets with finances, reporting, project management and other general IT tasks. I am soon to be rotating into Wholesale which is a different area focusing on generating energy and technical aspects such as coding.
I have learnt lots of new skills for example how to interact with different people, dealing with hardware requests and cost, chairing important meetings I have also developed skills such as self management, and confidence building. I have been on two training courses, one which helped me develop my excel spread sheet skills and the other which was SharePoint training. I found both these training courses worthwhile and very interesting. They have helped me to gain more knowledge when working in the role I am in now.
I love working here and I have only been here 6 months. Everyone is so enthusiastic and happy in this workplace which makes it even more enjoyable. The University course that I attend every Wednesday ties in well with the work I do at SSE and it enables me to see the bigger picture.
I often have meetings with my rotation managers about my successes and what I could work on. I am always told that I am a valuable asset to the team and that since I have been here I have helped them evolve. I feel very valued and I never thought that I could get this far when I was at college.
I really enjoy working at this successful company and have only been here 6 months. No only am I able to gain knowledge and skills internally when at work, but I am also doing a funded University course at Chichester. We go to University every Wednesday and are able to complete any extra revision or work tasks set by the University at work if needed meaning we are on top of studying.
The two rotation managers I am with at the moment are very supportive and I enjoy working with them very much. I have a very good relationship with the team and everyone is so welcoming. There is always someone who you can ask if you need help or have any questions.
My employer is very supportive to me and my colleagues. We are always prioritised and are encouraged to seek extra help and support whenever needed. We all have a very good relationship with our employer due to the approachable persona.
The salary is decent and higher than what most apprenticeships offer. Considering the fact that our degree is being funded for us we don't have any debt and so are able to save up for our futures. The only negative to working here is that I have to pay for parking costs due to there being too many people to car park provided ratio.
I am unaware of activates to do after work aside from the gym which is provided for all members of staff on site. Our team occasionally goes out after work to celebrate certain events together. e.g. Christmas, New Year.
Yes
I would definitely recommend this programme to a friend as it is an excellent opportunity. You are able to gain a funded degree in business an IT and put the theory to practice in a work environment. By being able to experience university and an office workplace environment, it has allowed me to become more mature and develop myself.
Always be yourself. Knowledge of the company shows interest. Enthusiasm and smiling. Ask questions
