On a day to day basis I am responsible for Health, safety, cost, and programme on site. I look after a 10 storey traditional concrete building ensuring that works are carried out as agreed and in line with the Risk Assessments. I coordinate works between the different trades to make sure that works do not clash.
Over the past three years of my apprenticeship I have developed my management skills, and most importantly my interpersonal skills. Not only this but I have developed my technical knowledge, allowing me better converse with the work force and fellow managers about issues on site. It has also allowed me to better identify potential issues when on site.
Having started the Mace apprenticeship 3 years ago I have enjoyed my job and been given some great opportunities. The culture within Mace allows individuals to thrive, learn and enjoy themselves. There are great opportunities to excel in your role and work as part of the team. The senior leadership team of the business are easily accessible and give you the opportunity to see and hear from them, as well as feed back.
I feel valued as a key member of mace. I have been given a good amount of responsibility on site and feel that I am trusted by the site team to get the job done, efficiently and safely. I have been recognised for my efforts at the end of year apprenticeship awards.
The organisation of the mace apprenticeship programme is good. Training and support is provided at the start, and throughout the apprenticeship. Organisation between Mace and my training provider (LSBU) could be improved in the future. However overall the programme is well organised and has a good structure to follow over its course.
A good amount of support is offered from my training provider, I do not always take up on this as I have support from employer also, and the support is often duplicated. I feel that the university could improve there offering as I do not always need support to be duplicated between them and my employer
I receive a good amount of support from my employer and am more likely to take up support with my employer than I am with my training provider. I speak to my line manager daily and the HR team are in regular contact to ensure that I am ok. Specialist guidance/help is available if needed.
Mace offer a competitive overall package, especially when considering the universities fees that are also paid. My travel to and from work is covered meaning that this is another expense I do not need to pay. Mace's salary offering is also good when compared to similar apprenticeships in London.
There are several clubs and societies within mace that you can get involved with outside of your normal work and these are open for everyone within mace. There are often team social events to get involved in, to develop the relationship between yourself, the rest of the team as well as the client.
