My role involves fast tracking through the roles within the branch network at Barclays. Starting off as an essential banker or cashier and working my way up to leadership team like assistant branch manager and branch manager
I have learnt my leadership style that i naturally have adopted and my confidence has massively grown. Working with members of public on a day to day basis has also helped me to become mroe socially aware.
I really enjoy my programme, there is always opportunity to get involved in new projects and because I am a higher apprentice I am trusted more and given more opportunity from my colleagues
I feel very valued by barclays, i have 1-2-1 meetings with my line manager every month and through being provided with private healthcare they really do care about our wellbeing
My programme could be more organised as sometimes there is conflict between my programme manager and line manager due to the programme manager never experiencing branch network before
I do recieve support as I have a university tutor who contacts me monthly and is always willing to help if i need support with assignments and uni work. The other lecturers are also very supportive and knowledgeable
My employer is supportive however sometimes they forget that we do have lots of uni work to complete, i.e. expecting us to do overtime when we have assignments due sometimes can cause pressure
It does meet my costs well as i still live with my parents. I am saving a large sum of my salary each month to put towards a mortgage. I have also recieve 2 pay rises within my time at working for barclays.
Yes there are opportunities to get through working for barclays, the university could possibly offer more opportunities for us to get involved in as we never go to the actual university campuses.
Yes
It is a big, well reputable company to work for. They pay well for apprentices and there is masses of opportunity to experience. There is also always room for improvement and progression.
I would advise to do your research first in the general financial services industry before applying for barclays. Also explore other higher apprentices to keep your options open.
