Technical Engineering Apprentice, 6 placements BAE Systems sites between Warton and Samlesbury, Military Air and Information. These placements involve roles within design, systems, test, engineering and manufacturing. I am currently working in Typhoon Flight Development, working to integrate future capabilities onto the Typhoon aircraft.
HNC Aeronautical Engineering, HND Aeronautical Engineering, ELLA LEAN Practitioner. I have developed a number of skills through the different areas i have visited working on a variety of projects and with a number of teams means i have been able to develop a wide range of skills from technical knowledge to communications and teamwork.
Dependent on the department i am working in will depend on how much i enjoy the job role. Some areas have been more interesting and beneficial for me than others but i am required to visit some areas to improve my understanding of aircraft systems or processes.
The number of benefits offered by the company range massively from a pension scheme which i am already a member of to the shares scheme open to all employees. The company also offers a wide range of employee discount schemes from HP computers, cars leasing, gym memberships and corparate memberships.
We spend our first year in the training centre before moving on-site where we then visit various different deparments to allow us to see the whole lifecycle that the aircraft goes through from to design to cusomter delivery.
I have 12 weekly reviews with my apprentice assessor and i also have monthly NVQ reviews to check on my progress and resolve any issues i may be having within the workplace.
Wherever required BAE Systems provides a significant amount of support both inside and outside of the workplace. We have internal systems in place to ensure the continual development of all staff and we have systems in place to provide employees with any support they require for issues outside of work.
BAE Systems offers an extremely competetive salary which increases on a target basis which roughly falls every Septemeber. We are given a pay increase every year and we are also involved with union payrises.
Where possible BAE Systems always involved apprentices with activities outside of the apprenticeship framework. This helps to develop apprentices and allow them to work with more people.
