originally, my role was to be a siganl design apprentice and i was uner the impression that i would be experiencing the day to day role within the design ofice. This is not the case and was not communicated to myself and others going into the design roles.
I haven't learnt any new skills as suh but i have been able to develop my practical skills and knowledge and further my qualifcations within engineering.
The maintenance side of the apprenticeship that i am undertaking i am enjoying very much. the team i have ben put with are keen to teach me and i can ask any questions with ease.
Due to the confusion and lack of communication into what my apprenticeship actually includes, the value i fell has dropped a little, it is making me consider a different path onvce i have completed the scheme.
From my perspective, there is a clear lack of organisation. The induction at depot was poor, the were not aware i was arriving but accomidated the situation very well given the circumstances.
the support i received was very good, even with regards to problems that have encountered.
i receive support from my manager most. He helps out with any issues that i have but within depot it is still unclear who i can ask about problems.
As the 1st year salary is based on 40 weeks in training falcilities instead of 20 weeks, it can be a bit tight.
i have not been informed of any opportunites outside of work.
Yes
overall, it is showing to be a good career opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning something different.
With the application process and assessment centres, stick at them if you are really interested and give it 110%. i would like to have been given more information on what exactly would happen within my apprenticeship, as there still does not seem to be any sort of structure and it is making me consider different options within network rail already.
