I work as an s&t engineering apprentice at West Ealing depot, my job is to make sure all tools are on the van and to repair faults and maintain points and signals and much more
I have learnt a totally new trade. I have become more practical and taken on more information than I believe that I could ever have.
I have had the best time making new friends and learning at the same time. There is always a joke going on every day and nothing is ever the same when you do work it's all different what makes it interesting.
The company look after you and people you work with are never afraid to help you when u need it, they answer all your questions enthusiastically and want you to progress as much as possible
The program structure is decent however sometimes it can feel draining or crammed into a small amount of time what could be a downfall to some people
The training staff do help when they can but with limited experience and limited time they have to understand you as a person there is only so much they can do but they all want the best for you so will research anything that u need to know if u ask
All questions are answered within a suitable time however within a busy environment it can feel like you are lost but an answer will come you just have to be patient
At first it doesn't seem like much but once you get working the time flys and pay goes up due to overtime and bonuses for working weekends and nights
After you get use to the roster patterns you lifestyle outside of work will adapt it's a struggle at first getting use to it but it comes
Yes
Great opportunity for a career, motivates you to do better for yourself through pay and bonuses. Allows you to be yourself within the work place while moulding you into a good hard worker and employee that can progress through the company. The time away is when you meet loads of new faces who you will become close with and form bonds that will last a long time, and memories that will never be forgotten.
It's all about what you put into it, if you work hard and get your head down and complete everything on time you will progress and learn quickly. Always keep on top of everything otherwise you can feel behind. Always ask questions and never be afraid to say you don't know something because that's how you learn something knew.
