  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • the area I work in within Siemens is the Manufacturing engineer department, within here our roles involve using cad/cam software to program CNC machines. we also innovate new ideas on how to speed production times, and maintain tooling and work-holding techniques. responsibilities include ensuring all machines are working at all times, provide operational support to machine operators, generate programs which machine the desired specification on the part working to drawing sizes with appropriate tolerancing.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have undergone training courses in the software we use, Creo 2.0 for both milling and turning, I have also completed a course in how to use Graphcam - another programming course. after these courses I have spent months training on these software systems increasing my skills on the way. training courses for CNC machines have been done, to understand the SIEMENS 840d control.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I work with a number of people who all share the same desire to produce work of a high standard, they are all friendly people and offer incredible support when required.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • I feel as though I am part of a great team here at Siemens, my responsibilities are growing each day and my involvement in tasks grows the more competent I become. During my time at Siemens i have been given a number of champions awards, whilst moving through the training Centre and different departments.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the apprenticeship is structured well, we are all issued a training plan when we begin which maps out the next four years, you always know where you are headed next.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Any support I require is offered to me, all I have to do is ask and help will be offered, my training provider (NVQ ASSESSOR) is external therefore I cant query him all the time but when he comes in I make sure to ask him all of the questions I had or discuss any problems I had.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a huge amount of support, if I am struggling to do something or require help, my colleagues will always help. they don't necessarily give you the answers but they will point you in the direction and let you learn yourself.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the salary is great at Siemens, living at home and not having a great expenditure it is more than enough to live comfortably.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Siemens run an annual football competition, the Siemens Newcastle team always enter a team, the tournament takes place in July at Warwick University. Sponsored walks are available in which you get a day out of work to walk and raise money for a Siemens Charity.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Siemens is a vast company and there are many departments within the Siemens Newcastle facility, the money is good and the People are very friendly, the work is challenging but rewarding and the opportunities within this company are endless.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • When applying do a lot of research into the company, what the values of the company are, what work they do at the company and also the History of the Company. show a genuine interest In the work they do at Siemens. At assessment days ensure you revise before hand, math's and English especially. take a lot of time to write your application, don't rush it.
