I work as a telecommunications engineering apprentice, I work on systems which contribute to running the railway safely and efficiently. Every day is different on the railway as the weather can affect a lot of our systems and this makes every fault different and challenging.
I have improved on my communication skills as all phone calls have to carried out as safety critical meaning you must know the phonetic alaphabet and speak clearly, and also straight to the point. I have also learnt about how phone calls work via radio transmission signals.
I absolutely love my job right now, you are always doing something different every day, work with great people who are always willing to help out and improve your learning.
Extremely valued as we are very well looked after, safety meetings to bring up and safety issues, managing meetings to discuss how the company is being run and wether you agree with them. They also make your opinion count.
The current programme is well structured and allows us to learn new bits of information efficiently.
We get support whenever we need it, they always reply to emails and messages in the best way they can, if they can't they will find someone who can.
My employer makes any support easily accessable by phone call or email, if I would like to do additional training they will always support me
My salary is good considering I'm an apprentice, there are not many that pay as high as network rail, however with the cost of living increasing it can be difficult
You can request to have stress relief breaks which the company pays for the employee to travel away for a few days and relax or you can go to events which may Benidorm how well you are motivated
Yes
Network rail is not just a job it is a career and a job for life. They are always willing to support in any way possible. There are a wide range of career opportunities within the company which anyone can apply for
Be prepared to work hard to see the end results, don't worry about anything as they will understand the reason for it and sort it, and most of all enjoy it, it's a once in a life time opportunity so take it while you can or you will regret it!
