At the beginning of the apprenticeship I started by completing a college course to achieve a National Diploma Level 3. After completing this we moved onto the Newcastle site and learnt more practical skills in Milling, Turning and Fitting, once becoming competent and completing the theory work I completed my NVQ level 2. Then I moved onto rotation where I spent a set time in various departments learning about different job roles and getting a taste for what I like. I am not in the Engineering department and I am doing my NVQ level 3 in Draughting.
I have learnt a lot throughout my apprenticeship and by the end I will have achieved an NVQ level 2/3 and a National Diploma level 3. As well as attending additional safety courses and doing a first aid course.
I enjoy it as i have been able to learn a lot of new skills and meet new people.
Reviews are performed regularly to keep up to date on my progress. I am involved in the work and have been given various tasks to complete.
So far the apprenticeship has been well organised/ structured.
Whilst I was in the Training Center the trainers were there all the time to help me with any problems that I may have. Once I was out on rotation, 10 week reviews are done to keep up to date on my progress and if i had any problems during that time i could still ask a trainer.
If I ever need support from my manager he is happy to help me with any problems.
The salary is good and covers all the things I would use it for, such as Car and Social costs.
There are opportunities outside of work such as football, which people from around the site play in.
Yes
You get a high quality of training which can set you up for the future.
Do plenty of preparation before aptitude tests and the interview. The more you research the easier it will be.
