I am a signalling technician apprentince. My daily routine is attending faults on power supplies, signals points and track circuits. I maintain points and keep the railway running efficiently.
I've learnt many new skills and developed many. I can work well in a team and have learnt how to read railway prints and work on specific engineering equipment.
I enjoy every moment of the programme. I learn new skills every day and gain knowledge. I enjoy my workplace and the people I work with.
I feel like a valued member of the team and am respected as one of them. They listen to me and my ideas as I do theirs.
The programme is good in the second and third years however the first could be a little bit more specific. However, it is well structured and teaches you everything you need to know.
I receive all the support from the trainers and managers. There are daily meetings and also monthly reviews by the trainers.
I receive all the support I need from my employer. They are always asking what I need and if there is anything they can do to improve my learning.
The salary is low however it meets my costs. You receive many valuable pay rises and when you finish the apprenticeship there is a nice payrise at the end.
Yes. The railway is such a huge opportunity to learn new skills that you can use outside of work, as well as abroad. It is a great opportunity for your cv.
