  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship here at CTT, I feel that I am able to work with a wide range of people who help me to advance my knowledge and skills. Everything I do has an impact on the business, which makes me feel like my apprentice role has a real purpose, and people depend on me for certain things. I think that everyone on site and even colleagues from different areas are very kind and helpful, they are always willing to show me new skills, and explain further when I don't fully understand. I absolutely love my job, and I feel like I fit in here really well, I have to say that CTT has exceeded my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • I feel very valued by Cummins, as said above, my role has an impact and is valued by my colleagues. When I learn new skills, I feel like I am helping the company even more. I work very hard to make sure that production and prototype orders go out on time and with no issues, I am very involved with my department, to ensure that we are all working together and are as updated as possible. My colleagues are very appreciative of the work that I do for them, and both me and my Manager have regular 1:1 meetings to make sure that I am up to date and I can discuss any issues if I have any.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very organised, and I work alongside my assessor and Manager to make sure that everything is planned and I have enough time to do my college work, as well as being able to work with people to learn new skills whilst at work. Me and my manger meet up with my assessor every 6 - 8 weeks to discuss my progress at work and with my qualification.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My assessor is very helpful, if I ever have any questions I can either phone her, email her or message her on one file. She comes in to see me and my Manager every 6 - 8 weeks, and in this timescale we spend around 2 hours discussing my work, and putting SMART targets in place for the upcoming 6 - 8 weeks, before we meet again.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support and guidance from my manager and also my colleagues. If I ever have any college work that I need to have evidence for, I can ask members of my team and they will help me out to make sure that I do something that benefits the company, as well as cross references the criteria for my qualification. All departments here are very easily accessible, I know what to do and where to go if I have any medical issues, health and safety issues, personal issues, or just questions in general. I feel very supported and safe at work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I think the salary at CTT is fair, it meets my needs as a student that lives at home and pays board. I also have my own car so I have to take in to consideration petrol fees, I have never had an issue with my wage. I believe it is fair, and as you gain more knowledge, your wage goes up.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Cummins are very linked in with the community, you can join the HSSC club which offers lots of out of work activities and trips to go on, there is a gym on site, clubs and many more information about activities and things to do within the community. Every colleague has to do 4 hours EEEC work every year, which I also think is a great way to get involved. I am currently part of the Independent Women's group.

  • 9. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this company to a friend because it is a fantastic place to work, everyone is respectful and kind, and they treat you equally to others, regardless of hierarchy. The company strives to push apprentices and placement students to help. Cummins strive to develop the knowledge of others, and everyone here is so helpful. I feel like I have learnt so much within the short time I have been here, everyday I learn something new, and this is great because I am then able to add my knowledge to the business and put it in to practice. Everybody is always willing to help you out to the best of their ability, and there is so much opportunity within the business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Make sure that you research the company before hand and find out about what Cummins actually do, because it is such a large company and covers so many areas. E.g Components, Engines, Distribution and Filtration. Make sure that you prepare yourself fully before your assessment day, because it is a tough day and you need to make sure that you have thought about everything, and portray yourself in the best way possible. Depending on the field of work that you are going in to, you should have an interest in this and a little experience, as this will help to guide you through the process and settle in easier. I would add references and detailed information in to the application forms, as they are marked strictly. I believe that if someone is that interested beforehand, they will not have to be told and should do this themselves. In my instance, I had no idea, but made sure that I did all of this.
