I am currently a Commercial Assistant (Consultancy) working in Mace's Major Programmes and Infrastructure sector. I have worked on large projects ranging from a Cultural and Education District to vital transportation infrastructure. My daily tasks include keeping a financial workbook to keep track of the incomes and costs over a project's lifecycle and assisting Senior Commercial Managers value work done to date. Furthermore my day to day tasks means I have to liaise with Quantity Surveyors from other Construction Consultancy firms.
Mace has been incredibly supportive when it comes to supplying their apprentices with the means to learn new skills. This ranges from being sponsored through university, a structured training programme covering important construction technology topics. Furthermore, I have received on the job guidance in using a variety of softwares.
I have found the programme incredibly enjoyable, and the working environment has been very supportive. The company itself is incredibly vibrant and innovative as it is always looking to improve. Mace has exceeded my expectations, in that I have been afforded more responsibility than I thought I would have. As a result I feel that I have learnt a great deal over the last year.
My managers as well as the Emerging Talent Team have been very attentive in terms of giving me feedback over my performance. My managers have made me feel involved and part of team. I have also been given interesting and relevant tasks on the projects I have been based at.
My programme at Mace has been well organised right from the induction day, with regular training sessions to attend and various workshops throughout. There are also periodical manager and mentor meetings to ensure you are being provided with all the tools to succeed.
The support from the University has been good and there is sufficient guidance in regards to the coursework assignments that are set. The course has been interesting as it covers Construction Technology and has computer based sessions to teach relevant software eg. AutoCAD and Revit.
I have received lots of support from my managers and HR Team. My managers have always ensured I have enough work to do and am getting exposure to relevant aspects of the project. The HR team are always quick to answer any queries I might have and have also set up the mentor scheme which has been incredibly beneficial.
I believe the salary is generous and sufficiently covers my costs. Furthermore, university fees are paid for and financial support for RICS Chartership is provided.
Mace regularly set up volunteering days, in order to give back to the community. There are regular company events that help maintain a friendly environment and positive team morale. There is also an opportunity to get involved in various fundraising activities with your peers. Attending university has also been a great way of networking with apprentices at other companies.
Yes
I would highly recommend Mace Group as the support you receive is phenomenal and you are always learning something new. Senior Colleagues who have vast amounts of knowledge and experience are always willing to offer guidance. Mace has an incredibly positive outlook as a company and is always competing to be part of the biggest and most interesting projects .
Being able to say why you want to be a part of the construction industry and why you have applied to Mace. In terms of the assessment day, relax, as it is a friendly environment and to make sure that you contribute in the group activities.
