Construction Manager: Managing activities onsite Reviewing Methods statements Planning ahead with the team. Responsibilities: Environmental co-ordination Nuisance monitoring pour checks
Being new to the construction industry, I have learnt a lot through this program such as reading drawings, writing reports and knowing the technical side of Construction. I have also developed my existing skills such as teamwork and communication.
I really enjoy what I do it all feels important, and I was placed with a really great friendly team who support me through my program. The company also offers a lot of support for all trainees, putting on special events and training days in order stimulate my development.
I feel very valued by mace and they are invested in me and helping me to learn what I need in order to have a great career not just within mace but in the industry.
It's structured very well, as straight from day when they went through the a detailed development plan for the next six months as well as talking about what comes over the next few years. I receive a lot of support from my Line Manager and the rest of my team. I can also ask the emerging talent team any other questions that I have about my personal development. I was provided with a Buddy who was someone who had been through the same program and had just finished, he's someone who I can ask for support on whatever I might need either work or studying. I also have a mentor who is an older construction manager and meet with him in regularly scheduled meetings to discuss me and what I have been doing and what I should be focusing on next.
Going to university means that I can always email any of my tutors who have worked in the industry and have the experience that is useful. Also the university has many facilities such as the library full of the latest textbooks.
At mace you have the mace business school which has a whole catalog of training modules.
Currently it meets my costs very well, but I am of an age where soon I will be looking to move out, so this could change. but not having to pay for my train fare helps massively.
There are loads of options for volunteering work through the company, through scheduled activity days and special events. There is also a gym discount for the gym near head office.
Yes
It's a really good company to work for and I know this because even my tutors at university say that. It's positively challenging role that is allowing me to develop a career in construction and as a person.
I would say to try and have a vision for where you want to in the future, mace like it when you have long term goals.
