  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Manufacturing Apprentice, at the moment I go to college full time completing my PEO and my BTEC. The PEO involves tasks such as electrical work, mechanical work and hand skill work. The BTEC is every Tuesday and consists of 6 lectures which all have assignments to be completed. Those lessons are: A/S level and some A level maths, Engineering drawing, Mechanical principles, Health and safety and two lessons of maintenance procedures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed many new skills while attending college and while attending work in college time holidays. Some of the things I have learnt is to do with various areas of engineering such as electrical work and wiring panels, Mechanical work and working with motors, hand skill work and learning different techniques in filing and drilling. I have also learnt skills in BTEC, in maintenance procedures and health and safety. While being in work I have learnt a small amount of skills as I haven't been in there very often, but some things I have learnt is how to write basic programs for some test programs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme at college and in work, I have met many new people and friends for life. It met my expectations and more, not only did I expect it to be this enjoyable but rewarding as well.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • I feel extremely valued by Cummins, from going on OnBoarding where the company introduced me to all aspects of it and how my programme will work. I met people from the company in different branches across the world.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured I know where I am supposed to be at all times and what I am supposed to be doing. I had a lot of information that informed me of my programme before I started.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider, if I need assistance with anything work related or personally related they are there to help and assist me. If I need help with any assignments they will assist me in resolving the problem so that it is correct.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I also receive a lot of support from employer, if I need any assistance at college they will assist me with that. I may also have enquiry's about things out side of work and college which again they will assist me with.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is well suited to my costs, it covers all costs for travelling, living and social.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities outside work, for example the apprentices go on team building activity's for a couple of days which are always great fun. There is also are reward scheme and voucher c=scheme with Cummins where you can do certain activity's and tasks for rewards.

  • 9. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is a great company to work for and assists you in every step of the way whether its a to do with work or personal life. I would recommend Cummins to any one that was looking for a job.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • When applying to Cummins you must be confident, both through out the application process and the interview process. The employers will look for confidence and how much you know about the company. Make sure that the application form being sent in is detailed and well written.
