My role it to learn the required information to ensure im best qualified to be on track in the near future. This is done through completing assignments and going out on the track with a maintenance team.
Yes, greatly improved written skills, gotten knowledge of track infrastructure and processes, actively taken part in physical maintenance tasks and developed people skills.
It has been enjoyable to date, met a lot of good people and had fun whilst doing it.
People are more than willing to help you learn the ropes whilst on track, indicating a clear valuing of your commitment to the team, however as only a trainee there are limits to this.
Considering it was the first time that the Westwood raining centre was used, there were rather a lot of problems that were encountered, a lot of the teaching staff that worked for Babcock didn't have efficient communication with the Network Rail staff causing a lot of confusion at times. Despite this there was a lot to manage for the first time at the compound so this was expected.
In terms of the Babcock staff, some tutors were very helpful whilst others weren't quite as much, as for Network Rail ensuring we were getting along well at depots, I feel they did a very good job with the diary system.
It is still early days however so far I have been well catered for and support is always there when I need it
As a young adult, I have lower financial demands, so for me it works well.
There were at the Westwood compound however none that ive been aware of since joining depot.
Yes
I feel it has been a great opportunity for starting a well regarded career that I both enjoy and can rely on.
Be ready to spend a lot of time away from home, a lot of people didn't find it easy.
