  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Involved in Wealth Asset Management. Overall I had to research things about the company and gain commercial awareness. Day to day basis was mainly researching. I had to also present my findings on Robotics in Banking and Finance. I also often had to write the timetable of the day for my team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my research skills and analytical skills. I also gained organisational skills as I had to manage a lot of information and sort through research. I also developed my independence skills because I was mostly researching by myself and having to research things that were crucial for the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work was mostly laborious and hard. I enjoyed the company of my team and they were very welcoming and always answered any questions I had. They didn't dump any work on me and allowed my to be mostly free and independent. The company seemed buzzing but also professional. I did not feel out of place as there was a welcoming environment. I expected a very boring environment but was pleasantly surprised. I for the most part enjoyed my experience, though there were some long stretches of boredom.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • I did not interact with that many people outside of my group. I wasn't that involved in projects, possibly due to seriousness of task. I did feel that I was welcomed and greatly appreciated the company. The building was very open and so I could roam a round and take a break if I needed one. The staff in general were very helpful.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Once again, the staff at EY were very helpful. The application process was quite long and difficult. There wasn't a clear timetable during my work experience and I often struggled to contact my mentor. However, there was definitely something for me to do everyday.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I did not have a training advisor to speak to, therefore do not feel I had much training. The facilitators in week 1 did help in preparing us for the business experience week.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very helpful and always gave me advice and allowed me to ask questions. There were not overly serious and were chilled out. I didn't speak to any manager. In general, there was a very supporting attitude from the employers.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I believe £6.80 per hour is very fair for the work. Often, I had to take the train and also pay for my lunch. I do not feel these wage makes up for it, but I'm not complaining. It wasn't that bad of a strain on my wallet.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Not that I know of. While working, I did take pat in leisure in the activity room. It was very fun.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is very supportive. It's a very good environment, and there was a lot to do. It's a very good place to network and gain skills.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would advice people to get the application process out of the way. In terms of interviews, I would tell people to be calm and have a set of notes. During the programme, I would suggest that people stay relaxed and open to communicate. I would have liked to have been told by someone to be confident when approaching people much earlier.
