My role as smart futures intern is to complete the tasks/activities I am set within a group to the best of my ability with evidence of how I got to the end result. I then also need to complete work independently to a high standard.
I have gained a level 2 CMI qualification and completed an ICAEW future charted accountant activity workshop. Personally I have gained confidence and improved on my presenting and problem solving skills.
I thoroughly enjoyed this programme because I was expected to meet the high standards and expectations which was a challenge, but I love challenges. The company has really broaden my options for the future and what I am considering taking in the future. The group of people I have met have also been lovely.
I feel valued to a certain extent, due to the age difference I think some people were kind of looking down on us. But other than that I felt quite respected.
The programme is very well structured, the training is tailored to aid us in the second week in the business experience. The mentors have been very supportive .
We receive lots of support, they are always available to contact through email and are always asking us if we're okay and checking on out wellbeing.
I also receive lots of support from Irfan and Elaine, if I am stuck they don't mind helping me or even repeating it twice, they got to know us personally too and gave us contacts for the future.
It meets amazingly, having a paid work experience alone is great as I didn't expect it to be paid.
The alumni events will give us all a chance to meet again. But there are opportunities outside of work, e.g the netball team at EY. Also voluntary events eg. the smart futures programme
Yes
It gives you a great insight to the working world and a real hands on experience, it also opens your eyes to lots of other opportunities available eg. the school leavers programme.
Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses during the application process, because EY can then do tailored specific activities to help you improve in these certain areas. Do not be nervous or too shy to speak to anyone because everyone must be feeling the same way as you.
