My role is a manufacture engineering higher apprenticeship and on a daily basis I am involved in engine assembly activities within new product introduction. I am involved with continuous improvement of the processes and the build in quality work to get new engines to a high quality.
I have learnt a lot of new skills. During the first year it is all workshop and technical skills based which gives a good base knowledge when out in the business to be able to provide good input.
I find this programme very enjoyable as I am given my own work to do that actually has an impact on the business and I can contribute to see outcomes that help people.
I feel valued by Rolls-Royce by them giving my all the opportunities for training courses that develop my skills and how they put trust in me to do worth while work on placements.
The structure of my programme is very well organised. There is a clear path to be followed with people to help get you where you need to be. there are clear criteria that you need to hit throughout the apprenticeship and you are always helped to meet them.
The whole apprenticeship is run through rolls Royce apart from the degree at Derby University. Both of which I have received a lot of support with in terms of planning my assessments and placements and getting me signed off.
Rolls Royce puts a lot of effort into the apprenticeship and you are supported throughout your time. there are also a lot of people within the company that want you to do well and will help to tailor your placements.
The salary is very fair for the work done and covers all costs towards living in derby. Each year the pay increases which just makes everything easier.
There are a lot of opportunities to take part in activities outside of work. The Aga (apprentice and graduate association) put loads of different kinds of activities you can get involved with and there is also rolls Royce sports clubs.
Yes
My overall experience has been fantastic. I have learned a lot of new very useful skills and have been pushed to do more than I thought I could. The company makes every employee feel valued and that includes the apprentices.
I would say not just to talk about what work experience you have but to emphasise what other activities and interests that you have and why you want to be a part of the company.
