  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work for Rolls-Royce Inchinnan MRO and A&T. I am trainnig to be a mechanical fitter. Every three months I go into a new section in my work and learn the jobs. After learning the jobs I write up evidence that are sued to sign off my SVQ logs. Every Wednesday I go to college to do a HNC in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn many practical skills such as bench fitting, milling, turning and other assembly skills through both college and my workplace. Rolls-Royce also put you through various internal education courses which help develop skills, such as safe driving, financial advise and using abrasive wheels.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I went to university for a year and didn't enjoy it but I very much enjoy the work dynamic of an apprenticeship, especially at Rolls-Royce.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Rolls-Royce?
  • Yes, recently the higher management have allowed the apprentices tot take part in designing new graphics for the factory as a way of allowing us to give our voice.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The SVQ and the college course is well structured. The course structure was explained fully to us before it took part to ensure we were well informed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive lots of support from my college both practically and theoretically.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My support team is excellent at providing help to the apprentices. My ADL, Dave Fisher, is extremely helpful and provides plenty of support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is very good for an apprentice at this stage of development so I can live very comfortably.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there is an apprentice fund which can be used to fund activities such as dinners, paintball and other leisure activities.

  • 9. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
  • Yes

  • It is a good place to work, you get qualifications, skills and is well paid.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Research the company and have a trial of work experience just so you know you will enjoy the job.
