Mechatronics technician maintaining and adapting machines both mechanically and electrically.
Yes, I had no formal engineering qualifications now I have an NVQ3, BTEC and am studying towards a degree
My work placements have been good but my initial workshop units were not really relevant to my role
I have had a reasonable amount of recognition and have had plenty of additional tasks to get involved with such as foreign exchange programmes and national competitions.
I only really received a proper job specific structure 6 months in to my course and was put on general machinist training beforehand. After this point it was good though
Work based learning has been brilliant and the people I have worked with have taught me a great deal. I have had a mixed experience with assessors but this is probably due to the fact that they were new.
I have had lots of support from my employer and am very pleased with how I've been treated in general
The salary is ok, slightly less than other big companies seem to offer for the role but above the norm
Yes, ive been involved with foreign exchange programs, national competitions, community engagement, stem activities and career talks/fairs
