I am a first year engineering apprentice at Nestle. Once qualified my role will be as a maintenance engineer. During the first year I attend college and a training centre on block release, attending the factory every Monday and school holidays. After the first year I will have completed my PEO and will be working in the factory day to day and attending college on day release.
During the first year I have learnt many new skills while at college and the training centre. At college I have learnt the theory side of engineering such as maths and Health and Safety. At the training centre I learn Practical skills such as welding and fabrication that I can put in to use once at the factory.
So far I have enjoyed all areas of my programme. When working at the factory there is a good atmosphere and everyone is friendly. As an apprentice you are treated with the same respect as everyone else and feel valued as part of the team. So far it has met my expectations.
As an apprentice I feel valued by Nestle and its employees. When I attend the factory I am always treated with respect and feel part of the team. My collage work is assessed by the tutors and then presented to my manager for inspection It always receives positive recognition but also constructive comments.
The programme is well organised and structured. It started with a weeklong induction. I attend college on block release for the first year and learn loads of new skills that are needed for the job role. Support is always available from the training provider and from Nestle when I needed it.
I receive a good level of support from the training provider. There is always someone available at collage to help me if I need them. All the tutors would be more than happy to help if I had a problem with some work I was set. I enjoy going to college and also the training centre.
I always receive support from my employer when I need it. There are lots of people who I could approach for support such as my manager or the HR team. Support is always accessible and people are always happy to help. I am confident that if I ever had a problem Nestle would be able to help me resolve it.
My salary easily meets my costs such as living costs and travel. I travel to work in a car that I was able to purchase once I started my apprentice and was earning a salary. A very attractive pension is also offered. My salary allows me to save money every month as there is always money left once all costs are covered.
There are lots of opportunities outside work. Nestle often hosts events inside schools and needs employees to help. Nestle offers two days off per year for volunteering and encourage employees to volunteer. There is often charity events hosted by nestle that happen outside work such a sponsored walks and employee bike rides.
Yes
Nestle offers lots of opportunities for progressing your career. The apprenticeship has an attractive salary and so far I have learn loads of new skills. The quality of training during the apprenticeship is one of the best in the area. The factory is very friendly and a good place to work.
During the application process be honest or it will show in your interview. During an assessment day be yourself! Try to take a lead role in any group activity and make sure your ideas are considered but it is also important to listen to others. Turn up to an interview prepared and on time and keep calm.
