Technical Apprentice. Daily, I shadow senior members of staff within my current department. I assist with tasks and attend daily meetings with colleagues from other departments. I am usually given a project/task that I am responsible for completing which allows me to demonstrate skills and build connections with other members of the team.
I have gained IPC qualification for soldering and acceptance which has allowed my to develop some technical skills. Working in different departments has created new contacts within the company and has grown my communication skills. Projects that have been allocated to me allow me to demonstrate my self management skills and initiative.
The work is varied and in good keeping with my skill set as an apprentice. I have really enjoyed meeting and working alongside a lot of team members in every department I have been in. The support from colleagues is great and I feel that I can grow with the company. Some aspects of the apprenticeship has far exceeded my original expectations.
I feel valued and part of the team. Even with my limited amount of knowledge and practical skills, I have always been given the support by management, supervisors & peers to be able to complete tasks and achieve personal goals.
This is a very comprehensive course and the support is great. The company always invite feedback and any issues encountered have been dealt with and the information and outcomes are always fed back.
Unfortunately, there has been many issues (most resolved) with our training provider. Lack of organisation has caused numerous room and staff changes and has put strain on my learning. However, some staff will go out of there way to provide extra support.
The support I have received from HR and management has been second to none. They have supported me in every aspect possible in order for me to succeed and progress. The range of support tools in place is excellent and easily accessible. There are always people who are approachable and available to provide me with the support I need.
Unfortunately, my salary only just covers my outgoings (rent, bills, travel, insurance) and has lead me to undertake part-time work, so that I am able to support myself.
The company arrange multiple trips to the theatre, road shows, local events etc. that are reasonably priced and usually include travel. There are also company events such as awards evenings that take place a few times a year. Quiz nights are also organised on site and well as smaller events that take place during lunch.
Yes
The company has a great deal to offer for those who want a successful career. The support in place will allow people to develop, grow and achieve their own personal goals. The wealth of knowledge on site is vast and people are willing to share and help those that need it.
Be willing. You don't have to know all the technical details, but just be willing to learn. An interest in something engineering is key, too. There's lots of opportunities that you wouldn't necessarily experience at university.
