I worked in a local branch for a few months as work experience. I helped the branch staff with any and all request I could. Obviously with it being banking and dealing with personal information I could not do anything too in depth but I helped out with customer queries advising them the services we offered and also doing menial paperwork.
I developed customer service skills and helping them get whatever they required. I also learnt a lot about how the banking industry works. The main thing I learnt was how to calm down irate customers when services were not working as they should.
I thoroughly enjoyed my programme, my team and manager were all lovely to work with and they helped me with any issues I had. They also invited me out to social events which was really nice. I think working for Barclays full time would be a rewarding job.
I felt very valued when I was working at the branch, not only by the manager who praised me as and when he saw fit but also by the other members of the team, they were always grateful when I finished a job for them.
The programme was only work experience and was thrown together day by day really, just seeing what came up and how we could deal with things. I don't doubt a real placement with them would have far more structure.
I didn't have a training provider. The only training I was given was by the staff and manager but this wasn't too in depth as I couldn't deal with private customer information.
I received a huge amount of support, again mainly from the branch staff. I didn't really deal with anyone higher up within the company as it was just work experience and I was not there for a long amount of time.
I was not paid a salary whilst working for Barclays as I was only on a work experience placement. The staff did sometimes offer me drinks such as costa or starbucks when they felt generous!
I was offered social opportunities such as going for meals with the staff once they had known me long enough, I built a great rapport with them all. I also noticed quite a few activities on the noticeboard such as fun runs and training opportunities.
Yes
Very friendly company, helpful in every way. Helped me when I needed it most and it really built my confidence. I would 100% recommend Barclays.
Look smart, feel confident, don't lie and be yourself. I think if you get to the interview stage you can only do your best!
